I didn't recognize myself today
After weeks (literally) of an empty pantry and refrigerator, I broke down and went to the grocery store tonight - something I always put off until a few weeks after the last minute, even though when I finally go I realize grocery shopping is not really that bad. I’m not sure why I dread it so much.
To start with, I wore my only most hipster-looking outfit: skinny jeans (okay, they’re...

You have a sister People with at least one female sibling report better social support, more optimism, and better coping abilities, according to a study presented at the British Psychological Society’s annual conference. Sisters appear to encourage communication and cohesion in families.

Flashback
During the fall semester of my senior year in college, the entire campus’ network was infected with a worm. It really messed up my PC, but being a typical college student, I just dealt with it instead of taking it across campus to be repaired (read: wiped).
6 years later, I decided to work on it. Amazingly, I was able to recover all my papers, music, and photos. I had fewer photos than I...

Why is it that I always run into someone (a boy) I would like to impress the day before my hair appointment (currently sporting dark roots and flat hair), the week my complexion decides to relive my early teen years, and on the absolute last day I can get away with not doing laundry (wearing the leftover black shirt from the back of the closet that doesn’t quite go with these jeans)?

Decisions, Decisions
Lately I have felt like I’m approaching a critical crossroads of my life. There are three options: ignore it and continue aimlessly down my current path, destination unknown, few interesting landmarks along the way; take the fork to the right with clear roadsigns that point to financial success, job security, and a defined life and career path; or take the road to the left, which is...
How do you go about business as usual when an office of 15 (now 14) has just been told their coworker died this morning while on vacation? I never actually thought I’d have to track down family members or try to find out the life insurance beneficiary for one of our own. This qualifies as the worst day at the office. No one knows what to do, but the phone keeps ringing and the emails keep...
Chicago - I'm Speechless →
It’s so… I just… I can’t formulate the words right now, but I will eventually string together my response to this in a coherent fashion.
Right now I’m too furious. And I don’t even live there.
Me: We should make a t-shirt for our employee appreciation night at the Cardinals game. How cute would your kids look in a little red [workplace] tee?
Coworker: Now you're just thinking like a sorority girl. Out to dinner? Make a shirt! Cleaning the house? Make a shirt! Going to the bathroom? Make a shirt!
***: 30 minutes later he was very excited about creating the design and even volunteered to call for some price quotes. T-SHIRT OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.

This applies to more than just materialistic riches. When I read this quote, immediately I relate it to the importance of complimenting each other, opening each other’s eyes to the beauty in each of us that we don’t necessarily see when we look in the mirror. Especially in women, we tend to be extremely over-critical of ourselves. Let this be a reminder to tell your friends,...
Reading Recommendations?
I’ll be spending a lot of hours in a car next week. I’m looking for some good, semi-light reading material - any recommendations?
(Disclaimer: Twilight and Nicholas Sparks books need not apply.)
Whatever I don’t get to on vacation will go with me to the pool this summer and the beach at the end of July.
Also accepting road trip playlist suggestions.

Countdown: T-minus 12 days
I haven’t taken a real vacation in several years, so I’m packing this summer with as much travel as possible. Vacation #1 - a road trip with two of my pledge sisters - is quickly approaching! (It makes my heart happy that I am not the only remaining single, non-mother from the ‘01 pledge class.)
Stop 1: Memphis, TN, for the Fourth of July weekend celebration on Beale Street,...
